Adopt
A Cop |
|
| What
is the Adopt-A-Cop program? Adopt-A-Cop,
or AAC, is a public service program designed to provide assistance
to police officers, deputy sheriffs, correctional officers and
their families when serious injury or loss of life in the public
service occurs. Who
is eligible to receive assistance? Officers or Deputies
of law enforcement agencies on the Peninsula are included in
this program. The agencies from Newport News and Hampton up to
James City County and Williamsburg are participating. What
types of assistance does Adopt-A-Cop provide? Service
may be as simple as encouraging cards and letters from the public
to wish the officers a speedy recovery. When specific needs arise
for officers or families monetary donations may be made to provide
assistance. How does the program operate? Each law enforcement agency has established a contact person in the agency to handle communications. When the agency determines an officer or deputy is in need the agency contact will refer the relevant information to the Virginia Peninsula Car Club Council- www.VPCCC.org . The council will then determine how best to support the officer and/or family, and begin to work closely with the agency to deliver the assistance. How is Adopt-A-Cop funded? Donations to AAC are accepted from the general public and businesses who wish to serve as sponsors for the program. Additionally, AAC decals are available for a small donation. When placed on your vehicle the decal is visible proof of your support for the daily efforts of the law enforcement community and the services provided to our communities. I'd like to have more information about AAC or would like to make a donation. Is that possible? Certainly, contact Captain Dave Arnold, program coordinator, at (757) 618-6646, or by E-mail at dlarnold@cox.net . |
